More About SanibelSanibel Real Estate

Sanibel is actually an island located in Lee County and home to about 7000 residents part of the Cape Coral and Fort Myers Metro area. Because it's an island, it's often referred to as Sanibel Island, but that's also the name of the city.  There is a collection of sand on the Leeward side of the more solid coral-rock of Pine Island. This popular tourist destination is known for its beautiful shell-covered beaches and wildlife refuges. More than half of the island is made up of these refuges the largest being the Darling National Wildlife Refuge. This a nonprofit Friends of the Refuge organization supports environmental education and covers over 5200 acres established in 1976 to protect one of the country's largest undeveloped mangrove ecosystems. You'll find migratory bird populations, raccoons, bobcats, alligators, and River otters just to name a few.

The main town of Sanibel is located on the eastern end of the island originally formed in 1974. The town was created as a result of the main causeway being built in 1963 to replace the fairy. Since then, massive construction and development has occurred, however, the city and citizens prevail to protect the island and only buildings above two or three stories are allowed on the barrier island built during that period.

Sanibel Schools

Sanibel Island has been rated #3 best places to raise a family in the county. 85% of residents own their own homes and it's an urban and suburban residential mix. Public schools are highly rated with the Sanibel School and Fort Myers High School coming in with top marks and reviews by parents and students alike. For those that have lived here their whole lives, there's nothing quite like Sanibel Island.

Why Choose Sanibel?

"Maybe I am biased because I've lived here my whole life, but I am truly in love with my island. Not only are we completely welcoming to tourists, but for anyone looking for a beautiful, close community to settle down in, I 100% suggest Sanibel. Our beaches our magical, our crime rates are ridiculously low ( we joke that our police officers are bored because they have nothing to do) and our nature is not comparable in beauty. For new families or those looking to find a forever home, just come to Sanibel!" - Niche.com

Sanibel Real EstateMany people that move here never want to leave. If you're planning on visiting, stop at the Publix in Fort Myers before you arrive. If you are visiting, grab all your staples for the week before staying at one of the air B&B or condominiums. It's a great place to visit before you decide to buy as there are multiple hotels and resorts perfect for a week of relaxation, sunshine, and beaches.

Speaking of beaches, there's nothing like the gorgeous sandy beaches of Sanibel Island. There's a sandbar where kids can go out and it never gets deeper than waist-high. Collect shells, explore the ocean when the tide goes out, and enjoy a fabulous dinner at the Lighthouse restaurant. Bringing your four-legged friend along? That's perfectly fine because there are plenty of pet-friendly restaurants all up and down Sanibel Island such as Key lime Bistro, George and Wendy's Sanibel Seafood Grille, and the Island Cow. This restaurant has been voted best comfort food, lunch, and finally dining on Sanibel for 10 straight years in a row. It's also been rated as one of the top five breakfast places in the state by Southern Living.

There's a wealth of fun things to do, see and explore on Sanibel Island from fishing to golf, tennis courts and water sports, eco-tours and cruises, moped and Segway rentals, or simply grab a blanket, stretch out on the warm, white sandy beaches, and so can some of that Florida sunshine.
